Yam, charcoal traders attack Ashaiman Assembly

Some angry yam and charcoal traders on tuesday attacked staff and properties of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly.

They claimed that the Municipal Chief Executive has sold the land on which they do their business hence their action.

The traders numbering over one hundred were clad in red and had red arm bands, while some wielded sticks and clubs.
The mob burnt lorry tyres at the premises of the assembly and assaulted some of the staff.

A national service personnel lost one of his teeth and had a cut in the head after he was assaulted by the angry mob.

A soldier from Michel camp was also not spared and his 25 rounds pistol was stolen by the mob.

Currently there are about 30 Police personnel and about 30 military personnel here to ensure peace.
