DR. ABDUL-NASHIRU ISSAHAKU APPOINTED BOG GOVERNOR

                             
Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku has been appointed as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to replace Dr Henry Kofi Wampah who retired last week.

Dr Issahaku prior to this new appointment was the second deputy governor of the central bank since July 2013.

His appointment by President John Dramani Mahama was confirmed in a statement issued by the Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah on Monday afternoon.


This followed a decision by Dr. Kofi Wampah to take an early retirement, four months before the end of his term in August 2016.

First Deputy Governor of the central bank Millison Narh was last week made to act as governor until the appointment of a substantive one.

Dr Issahaku holds a Masters in Agric Economics and a Post Graduate degree (Ph.D) in Political Science from the University of Georgia.

He worked  as a governance expert at the State University of New York, Center for International Studies and also at the African Development Bank and also headed the Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF).

He has been a Member of the Economy & Research Committee, member of the Strategic Planning & Budget Committee and member of Monetary Policy Committee of the BoG.
