The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air: Where Are They Now? A Look At How The Stars Have Changed
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is about to turn 25. Yes, somehow it's
been more than two decades since a couple of guys who were up to no good
and started making trouble in Will Smith's
neighbourhood. With the show's birthday just around the corner -
September 10th to be exact - we've decided to look back at the
programme's famous cast. Yo homes to Bel-Air...
Will Smith
The teen heath-throb, who is now 46, was always destined for big
things. But nobody expected he'd become one of Hollywood's biggest
stars... Then marry a Hollywood star [Jada Pinkett-Smith]
and go on to father three Hollywood stars-in-the-making Willow, Trey
and Jaden. Will's done pretty well for himself with blockbusters
including Independence Day, Men In Black, Ali and Enemy Of The State to
name a few. And with regards to awards, the four-time Grammy-winning
actor undoubtedly ran out of space in his trophy cabinet a long time
ago.
Alfonso Ribeiro
Anyone who grew up in the Nineties will always see Alfonso as eccentric, Tom Jones-loving
Carlton Banks. But since the series ended, the actor has landed himself
plenty more jobs. He hosted game-shows Catch 21 and Spell-Mageddon,
then went on to work behind the camera and direct Meet The Browns and
Are We There Yet. He treated the world to glimpse at his iconic dance
moves again last year when he featured on Dancing With The Stars. He's
also married one of the hottest blondes we've ever seen - the gorgeous
Angela Unkrich.
James Avery
We couldn't believe our ears when the legendary Uncle Phil actor passed away last year
following complications during open-heart surgery. Had he have lived,
the star would be preparing to celebrate his 70th birthday later this
year. The Fresh Prince was undoubtedly James' biggest gig, however, he
also enjoyed roles in legal sitcom Spark and crime drama The Division. A
fun fact about the actor is that he also did lots of voice-over work -
including Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Karyn Parsons
Karyn became a household name as stunning airhead HiIlary Banks. But
her fame quickly dissolved in life post Will Smith. She managed to get a
part in sitcom Lush Life, playing pretty much an identical character.
However she was axed just four episodes later. While her acting work
never really picked up again, it wasn't all bad news for Karyn. In 2003,
she married Alexandre Rockwell and together they have a beautiful
little girl called Lana.
Janet Hubert
Janet, who played Aunt Viv in the earlier episodes, pretty much
kissed goodbye to her career when she fell out with Will and Alfonso -
resulting in her being axed from the show. The actress remained bitter
for years after, branding Will an "a*****e" and accusing Alfonso of
doing "hideous things". She never did manage to land another role on the
same level as Aunt Viv. So it comes as little surprise that last, she
attempted to bury the hatchet with her former co-stars and asked for a
reunion. That was two years ago. We hear she's still waiting for their
RSVPs.
Daphne Maxwell Reid
Aunt Viv number two got on much better with the star-studded cast
than her predecessor. So much so that she stayed on the show until the
very last episode. At the age of 67, she still looks as fabulous as ever
and has added plenty more strings to her bow - including mastering the
art of photography. The actress, who later featured sitcoms Eve and
Let's Stay Together, has even gone on to publish some of her favourite
snap in a collection called "Daphne Maxwell Reid's Fresh prince". What a
legend.
Tatyana Ali
Tatyanna
was tipped as RnB's next big thing when The Fresh Prince wrapped. With a
little help form her on-screen cousin, she released her first album in
1999 called Kiss The Sky, which went Gold. Her single Daydreamin then
reached at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.
However, after that, the star's music career fizzled out. Apparently
she had an EP last year - but this is the first we've heard about it!
Joseph Marcell
He may have been cast as the help, but Geoffrey the butler was almost
as popular as the Fresh Prince himself. But rather than cash in on his
fame in Hollywood, Joseph decided to return home to the UK after the
show ended. He then bizarrely ended up in Walford after signing up to
EastEnders to play Patrick Truman's nemesis Aubrey Valentine. Who needs
Bel-Air when you've got Albert-Square?
Ross Bagley
The last time Fresh Prince fans saw Nicky, he was an adorable,
pint-sized pre-schooler, wise beyond his years. However, Ross is now all
grown up and unrecognisable. After the show ended, he went on to star
alongside Will once more in Independence Day as his surrogate son.
However, he then took a step back from the acting world and decided to
focus on education. Since getting his degree in cinema and television
arts at California State University, Ross has been preparing for a
return to the big screen and has recently finished filming two
blockbusters Dead Ringer and Gilded Cage.
Jeff 'DJ Jazzy Jeff' Townes
It's hard not to think of Jazzy Jeff
without picturing him being thrown from one room to another by Uncle
Phil. But those days of rejection are long gone. The star is now a
respected producer and DJ and often tours the world playing sets for
high-profile clubs. After deciding to return to music full-time, he has
worked with big names like Eminem, The Roots and Jewel. What would Uncle
Phil have to say to that?
