The Nollywood star in her twitter handle @ini4phil, claimed that her marriage did not crash due to adultery but irreconcilable differences. “I asked for a divorce from my former husband because of lots of irreconcilable differences. I never cheated on my husband. There is a conscious and malicious attempt at tarnishing my image. This whole saga is familiar, let’s not forget the past. Thanks and God bless.”
Gist of the collapsed union became talk of the town, and several allegations flew about, especially around adultery.
But one of the things that tasked the union was the ‘across the sea’ relationship of the couple. While Phillip lives in America, Ini is usually in Nigeria. Though they kept in touch and spent time together, the separation took its toll.
And the fact that they don’t have any child between them must have put enormous pressure on the marriage.
But some people, mostly fans of the actress, could not believe it.
Sources, believed to be very close to the couple, said the breakup was due to allegations of cheating and distrust between Ini and Phillip. Also, they accused the groom’s family of aiding the dissolution of the marriage because the actress did not give birth to a child.
But many people did not believe what they heard until Ini herself decided to open up on the matter. In a message posted on her Twitter page, the actress did not only confirm the story that her marriage had crashed, she also went on to refute a rumour that she cheated on her former husband.
A close source who is related to Phillip spoke on the condition of anonymity that, “Ini Edo should shut up about the marriage crash because with the way she was going by trying to paint Phillip as the wrong party, we may be forced to open her can of worms and it will not be palatable to her and her career.
“I can tell you that Ini Edo is a serial cheat who played the field behind her husband’s back for the duration of their marriage. Is she going to deny she was dating one Island big boy whose girlfriend organised her friends to beat her up and injured her?”
Another family source pointed out that, “I can tell you that Ini Edo is not as innocent as she is trying to make people believe or think. We caught her on more than three occasions with three different men and she always begged us to forgive her. We can even mention some of the men she had affairs with including a South-South governor whose wife embarrassed her and ordered her security to send her out of the governor’s guest house in the state capital.
“She should dare us and we will mention the name of the governor on the pages of newspapers.”
Another source, a close friend of Phillip also added his voice to the contentious issue: “Did she tell you how Phillip embarrassed her in front of her people when he went to collect his bride price? He told her people the kind of adulterous daughter they have and how she had been cheating on him right from the first day they were married.
“In fact, he did not want to collect the bride price but her people begged him to collect it as that would free her to get married to another man in the future.”
With more than 50 appearances in movies to her credit and a large fan base, Ini comes across easily as one of the most popular actresses in Nollywood. Naturally, her fans and well wishers would be interested in whatever happens to her or become touched by any change in her fortunes.
At the outset of her marriage, Ini enjoyed a lot of goodwill, especially from those who had been anxious to see her get married. Not one of this people expected that their icon’s marriage would end up this way, crashing in less than six years.
