A woman has become pregnant 14 times in 10 years - just to avoid being sent to jail. The woman, whose surname is Zeng, was sentenced to life in prison for corruption in 2005.
But because she was pregnant at the time, the court in Urumqi in Northwest China's Xinjiang autonomous region recommended that she be put on probation on October 17.
According to the People's Daily Online, when Zeng was going to be sent to prison, she became pregnant again in order to maintain her freedom. After probation was granted again, she reportedly went for an abortion.
In the nine years since 2006, she has claimed to be pregnant 14 times, of which once was made up and the remaining 13 were real. The Municipal Bureau of Justice recently resubmitted a request to put her in prison to the Urumqi Intermediate People's Court. The request was granted, and she has now been imprisoned at the age of 39.
