Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore: English Is No Problem - I Speak Several International Languages...

  • Hon. Nii Ashie-Moore - MP, Adentan Constituency
Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency, Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore says he is not worried about mistakes made at the Privileges Committee meeting of Parliament. Aside English, he revealed that he speaks several other international languages; German, Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish, Italian as well as French.

The Parliamentarian who posed questions to the Editor of Daily Searchlight, Ken Kuranchie when he appeared before the privileges committee of Parliament last month is said to have made statements like, “Did you spoke….?” instead of “Did you speak….?” and “Did you attributed…..?” instead of “Did you attribute….?”.
In that context, a billboard has been erected in the Adentan Constituency with the inscription “you can continue to spoke but in 2016, the people of Adentan will speak”.

Reacting to the issue on Accra based radio station Tuesday, he laughed off the issue saying he is ready to serve his constituents and have made impact as far as his command of the various languages are concerned.

“I’m not perturbed by the comments going round. Amongst the 275 Members of Parliament no one speaks more than four languages except for me; The 2012 election was quite a tough one for me because Frances Essiam who was my competitor has a very good educational background and she is a strong woman as well yet I beat her with over 5000 votes; I had not even been to parliament.

“If the billboard was erected for political motives for campaigning, then the person started on a wrong note. The work of an MP is to represent the people of their constituency and lobby to facilitate develop in the communities not pointing out mistakes” he lamented.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament in connection with the issue has said Members of Parliament are to represent their constituencies and not award marks for English spoken during deliberations in the house.
