Dentists ban obese patients weighing more than 127kg - in case they break their chair

The £7,500 (GHC 44,000) reclining chair at the Maendy Dental Practice in Aberdare, South Wales.
A dental surgery has banned obese patients weighing more than 20 stone saying their chairs can't cope with their weight.

Overweight patients registered at the Maendy Dental Practice in Aberdare, South Wales are being refused treatment due to their size.

The practice has sent out 'warning letters' saying their £7,500 reclining chairs will buckle under the strain of holding large patients.

The chairs have a weight limit of 20 stone and the staff say it is against health and safety regulations to treat those weighing more.

A letter, sent to all patients, read: 'Please note that the dental chair has a weight limit restriction.

It will be interesting to see such a notice in any health care facility in Ghana...
